When both of the kidneys of a patient lose their 90-95% function, then kidney transplantation becomes necessary in order to save his life. He can obtain a kidney from someone who is willing to donate his one kidney. As a person can live a normal life on one kidney, he can donate his second kidney to such patient. It is said that saving someone’s life is the most humanitarian work that one can do. Any healthy person between the ages of 18 to 60 could be a kidney donor. But the lesser is the age, the better. It has found that if the donor shares a blood relationship with the patient then the chances of kidney rejection are highly reduced. So siblings, parents, children could be a good donors. The donor should have compatible blood group with that of the patient. He should not have any of these diseases: diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, heart disease, kidney disease.
